55TDY060D4-2B Description

A PM slow synchronous motor is a fully enclosed motor with a high pole count motor with a low natural rotational speed (72 or 60RPM). They only need a Resistor-Capacitor (RC) network to operate from single-phase AC mains. They are very cost effective and easy to use for loads running at 72 RPM or slower.

Other motor technologies (induction, DC, servo and stepper motors) either require gear reducers or electronic drives to match the speed of SOK synchronous motors. The cost of gear reduction alone or the cost of an electronic drive often exceeds the total cost of a SOK synchronous motor.

For slower speeds planetary gear reducers are available. SOK synchronous motors produce very slow speeds with only moderate gear reduction.
