Working principles:

Flat plate collectors work on a different principle than vacuum tube collectors. Glass flat panel solar collectors consist of a shallow rectangular box with a black flat panel behind a tempered glass cover. The plate is connected to a series of parallel tubes or a serpentine through which water or another liquid (such as antifreeze) is passed. Sunlight passes through the glass and hits the heat-absorbing panel, which heats up and converts the sunlight into heat energy.
