Construction of two-roll mill
The mill is usually assembled on a steel base plate, which is again set on rubber pads or adjustable sound-insulating metal to isolate the noise level of the building while avoiding tension on the mill structure. Accurately leveling the mill is very important for smoothness. Running is important.

roller bearing
Two rigid struts with removable tops carry the rollers, which are placed in friction/bushing bearings or high quality anti-friction roller bearings. Roller bearings are now almost standard as they save 20 – 30 % of electricity. Lubrication systems are no longer required.

Roll settings
Adjustment of the front roller used to be manual (manually via a ratchet) or later electrically powered by a worm gear.

Today, hydraulic pistons can adjust the rolls and also protect the rolls from high pressures that can build up between the rolls (roll safety). In case of emergency (required by European safety standard CE), they also open the roll gap as soon as the safety lever is pushed forward or backward.
