Product Description
Copper is a good conductor of electricity and is widely used in the manufacture of wires and components. Copper purification is a form of recycling. The copper is further purified using electrolysis, which we call copper electrorefining (electrorefining).
In industry, this is done on a large scale. Electrolytic copper production takes place in huge copper electrolytic cells filled with copper electrolyte. Even the best chemical methods cannot remove all impurities from copper, but 99.99% pure copper can be produced through electrolytic refining (no matter what method is used to make copper from ore, its final purification is done by electrolysis) .
Copper electrolysis project customer site: Figure 1 is the cathode plate, and Figure 2 is the cathode copper after electrolysis. It is extracted from copper ore in smelting furnaces and contains 98.5% copper. It is the raw material for producing electrolytic copper. The final electrolytic copper product contains 99.99% copper.

Under the action of direct current, anode copper and poorer negative metals are dissolved into the electrolyte, while gold, silver, palladium and other precious metals cannot be dissolved, and anode slime is made;

The copper in the solution will be preferentially precipitated, and the poorer metals that cannot be precipitated will remain in the solution, and they will be removed when the electrolyte is purified, and the cathode will precipitate purer copper (99.99%), which will be called cathode copper or Electrolytic copper.

-----Copper electrolytic refining tank

In electrolytic copper refining cells, the anode plates are suspended by "handles". Pure copper cathode pieces suspended from solid copper strips are inserted into the same slot with one piece between each anode. When current is passed from the anode to the cathode through the electrolyte, the copper in the anode moves into solution and plated onto the starting plate. Impurities from the anode settle to the bottom of the tank.

-----Copper anode (plate) casting machine

Copper anodes will be cast semi-automatically into the anode plate in the mould. The pre-treatment starts with the removal of tin, lead, iron, aluminum and then the copper material is loaded into the furnace and then the smelting process takes place. After removal of impurities, the deslagging and natural gas reduction stages will be carried out. Reduction aims to remove free oxygen. After reduction, the process ends with casting, where the final product is cast in the form of copper anodes.

The refined anode taken out of the refining furnace becomes electrolytic copper with a purity of 99.99% through the electrolysis process: during the electrolysis process, copper (II) ions leave the impure copper anode and migrate to the negative electrode because it is the positive electrode. Sometimes pure copper is scraped off the cathode. Impurities from the copper anode, such as gold, silver, platinum and tin, collect at the bottom of the electrolyte solution and deposit as anode slime.

Ag, Au, tin and Pt are more noble than copper and are insoluble in the electrolyte, so they do not deposit on the cathode. They will be present in the anode slime as metals;
Soluble impurities of iron and nickel are dissolved in the electrolyte and must be continuously purified to prevent excessive deposition on the cathode, thereby reducing the purity of the copper;
Sn, Bi, and Sb dissolve at the anode, but precipitate in the electrolyte as oxides or hydroxides, which are present in the anode slime.
