1602 uses a standard 16-pin interface,

Pin 1: VSS is the ground supply

Pin 2: VDD connected to 5V positive power supply

Pin 3: V0 is the contrast adjustment terminal of the liquid crystal display. When connected to the positive power supply, the contrast is the weakest. Contrast is highest when the power supply is grounded. When the contrast is too high, "ghosting" occurs. When in use, the contrast can be adjusted with a 10K potentiometer.

Pin 4: RS is register selection. A high level selects the data register, and a low level selects the instruction register.

Pin 5: R/W is the read and write signal line, high level read operation, low level write operation. When both RS and RW are low level, the instruction can be written or the address can be displayed. The busy signal can be read when RS is low and RW is high. When RS is high and RW is low, data can be written.

Pin 6: The E terminal is the enable terminal. When the E terminal changes from high level to low level, the LCD module executes the command.

Pin 7~14: D0~D7 are 8-bit bidirectional data lines.

Pin 15: Backlight positive power supply

Pin 16: Negative pole of backlight power supply

The internal character generator memory (CGROM) of the 1602 module stores 160 different dot matrix character patterns, as shown in Table 1, these characters include: Arabic numerals, English capital letters, common symbols, Japanese kana, etc., each character has Fixed encoding.
