Smart relays are designed for multi-battery applications as a solenoid priority system to protect the chassis charging system from excessive loads while allowing auxiliary batteries to charge.

Basic operating characteristicsa

A. Protect the charging system:

A smart relay monitors the battery system to determine if the battery is charging. When the engine battery reaches 13.0-13.4 volts, indicating charging, the SR will engage both battery packs. If the charge on the charging system becomes depleted, when the auxiliary or primary battery pack drops the system voltage below 12.6-12.8 volts, the SR disconnects the packs from each other, protecting the respective packs from excessive drain.

B. Assist engine start (optional)

When the starter is activated, the SR compares the voltages of the two battery packs. If the chassis battery is lower than auxiliary battery pack j, SR will engage, allowing the auxiliary battery pack to help start the vehicle. The enable signal must be at least three volts for operation.
