Some boxes are designed for indoor or outdoor use, while others are mounted behind or outside a wall. They can include light switches, wires or sockets.

Convenience Box: Surface mounts to the wall. It can include light switches or outlets. Ideal areas for rear wall installation are difficult or impossible.

Junction Box: Wires are only connected to each other. Do not connect to switches, outlets or fixtures. Allows circuits to be safely split and forked in different directions.

New Workbox: Installed as part of a new construction project. Mount directly to studs or joists, or use a rod holder to place between two studs before applying drywall.

Old office boxes: also known as "retrofit boxes". "Mounted to drywall, already hung." The box comes with clips, perfect for adding new outlets to existing walls.

Outdoor Box: Available for metal and non-metal installations. Protect wires from the elements with gaskets, sealed joints, and waterproof covers.

TIP: Electrical codes require that all electrical boxes have covers. The enclosure must be waterproof.
