Metal oxide varistor (MOV) is a non-linear resistance element, its main material is zinc oxide (ZnO), which has high surge capability and large non-linear coefficient. Below the threshold voltage, its resistance is very high, and almost no current flows, but above the threshold voltage, the resistance decreases sharply, and a large current can be released. Due to this characteristic of varistors, varistors, as protective components in electrical and electronic equipment, can absorb abnormal overvoltages and lightning surges.
