Mortar mixer

The barrel of a mortar mixer does not rotate like the barrel of a tumbler mixer. Instead, rotating paddles inside a stationary bucket create a mixing action. The paddles spin on an axis in the center of the bucket, and they are usually equipped with rubber strips that scrape the mixture off the sides of the bucket as the paddles turn. These mixers are good for relatively smooth mortar mixes, but not for concrete mixes that contain coarse aggregate. Large gravel can jam between the paddle and bucket, while coarse aggregate can cause severe wear on the paddle and rubber strip.
